Meet the CREW of Excellence

Captain Tom White

Tom joined the Excellence team in August of 2016 after his previous vessel sold.  His extensive knowledge and experience as a captain and welcoming Southern spirit will insure a great time for your friends and family.  Tom’s career on boats began when he joined the Coast Guard as a search and rescue officer in Louisiana and the West Coast of America. After 6 years of service in the Coast Guard, Captain Tom joined the commercial shipping industry, sailing in and out of the Bayou. He has completed many Transocean passages and commanded vessels traveling from the Alaska to Bermuda, Western Canada, Europe, Central America, Cuba and the Eastern and Western Mediterranean Sea. For a break, Tom loves diving, horseback riding, and reading history biographies.

First Mate Guy Semour

Guy was raised on a farm in South Africa where he learned the values of life and the importance of hard work. Any chance Guy and his family had they would make trips to their cottage on the rugged yet majestic Wild Coast. This is where Guy picked up some of his hobbies which include: kayaking, hunting, and grilling. Another passion of his is fishing and if this is something you are interested in doing while on board Excellence, Guy is the man to go to. After graduating from University he gave the corporate world a try. He was a successful Marketing Manager but, decided it wasn’t the job for him. Guy joined yachting in 2011 and has since then, proved to be a great asset to the industry. He is an all around good guy who loves what he does.

Chef Eric Davis

Hailing from central Michigan and born with a flair for creating, Eric was part of a two-year Food Service Program for the Area Tech Center in Mt Pleasant. In May of 1992, he received a Scholarship to Johnson and Wales University, where graduated with an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts in Charleston, South Carolina and pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Culinary Entrepreneurship in Providence, Rhode Island. He has hung his chef toque in such places as Miami Dolphin Stadium-Luxury Suite Chef de Cuisine, Miami; Rochelle’s Cool Pepper Sauce LLC- National Executive Chef Sponsor, Kansas City; and Fahrenheit-Executive Chef, Chicago. Eric entered yachting 6 years ago working as an Executive chef on both Charter yachts, private and even cruise ships. He’s been in the public eye on  TLC “Four Weddings”, and a Smoking Cocktail, Miami, Florida.  You can also find him on Chat Chow TV and several events with the Food Network at the Sobe food and Wine Festival. Whatever you have a taste for, Chef Eric is sure to leave your taste buds happy and your mind blown with his blend of creativity and taste.

Engineer Hartmut John

After leaving the active service as an aircraft maintenance chief mechanic in the German Airforce, in 2000, Hartmut began his journey into a yachting career. From that time on, he has passed through different places and positions. At first as a mate and engineer, then skipper in a German sailing school and later as a captain and engineer on sailing and motor yachts up to 40 meters. He has been able to travel large parts of the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands and the Caribbean. As an engineer and captain, Hartmut has been involved in the supervision and management of yacht refits and new construction of yachts in Malta, Italy, Turkey and Croatia. Despite the long service in the industry, his joy and motivation is still unbroken. He is a very reliable, honest, experienced and well trained Engineer, with high demands in his quality of work.

Bosun Ned Fisher

Born and raised on the island of Ovalau in the isles of Fiji, Ned has always been attracted to anything and everything to do with the sea. Ned started his career as a flight attendant in 2007 and then in 2009 move into the Cruise Ship industry in the Pacific. In 2014, Ned decided to chase his dream and enroll with the Australian Super Yachts where he attained his Certificate for Professional Deckhand Training. A year later he was offered a permanent job with Excellence where he’s proved to be an asset to the team.Ned’s innovative, easy going and versatile demeanor ensures that he is well liked by guests and crew alike. He also ensures that all guest access areas are safe and well kept, before, during and after trips. In his spare time Ned loves training, diving and reading.

Chief Stewardess Samantha Tester

Samantha TesterThrough family gatherings on the coast which were full of fishing, surfing, and boating, Samantha has a natural attachment to the coast. After graduating High School in Charlotte, NC, Samantha’s love for the sea brought her to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where she graduated with her Bachelors in Business. She is an entrepreneur at heart and hopes to own a business one day. Samantha is an outdoor girl with a love for adventure. Some of her hobbies include yoga, running, hiking, and has recently started creating hand crafting jewelry. With two years of experience in the industry, an eye for detail, and a positive-energetic personality, Samantha will happily try to make your stay on board unforgettable.

2nd Stewardess Nichol Stengell

Nicholl spent her childhood in a small beach town along the Jersey Shore known as Point Pleasant. Her she learned the many wonders of the sea while on her family’s boat “Mignight Hook”. As a family they sailed to many New England destinations such as Fire Island, Cape May, Norfolk, and many others. With the traveling itch, Nicholl joined a boat as a stewardess to further explore the East Coast and the Islands of the Caribbean. Aside from yachting, Nicholl is also a Ballroom Dance Instructor and loves to teach others the flare of salsa and ballroom dancing. Her hobbies include going to church with friends and family, dancing and being active! She is a strong member of the Excellence team and is happy to provide you with the cocktails and amenities  needed to have an unforgettable stay on Excellence.

3rd Stewardess Logan Roesle

logan-roesleLogan was born in the vibrant city of Dallas, Texas where she grew up dancing in competitions and summers on the lake. Logan went to the University of North Texas where she studied Dance and Merchandising in Fashion and Home Décor. Her dreams of traveling throughout college, sent her on a beautiful graduation adventure through the south pacific where she traveled for 2 months throughout Australia and Fiji. The breath taking views and lifelong memories made on various coasts throughout her journey had her in love with the sea. Once back on land in the states, Logan pursued a job in San Francisco as a buyer for a Home Décor company. The hustle and grind of the city on the bay was far from her memories of the Pacific and she soon found herself looking for a career on the ocean. Before long Logan found herself in Ft Lauderdale, Florida, completing her STCW and networking to find a job on a yacht. Logan is a positive addition to the crew of Excellence and looks forward to making your trip one to remember!

Deckhand Ruan Van der Berg

Ruan was born and raised in the large city of Johannesburg, South Africa. During grade school Ruan was a successful member of a number of sports teams incudling: Rugby, Tennis, and Cricket. His rugby team went to state finals a number of times. After graduating, Ruan studied Architecture and Design at CTU in Johannesburg. He was quick to find a job with a leading Architecture Firm that designed large condo and housing buildings. He worked for over 2 years when the pressures and city life had him day dreaming of traveling and the outdoors. Ruan has had a love for water sports since he was young and always seemed to look forward to his family’s yearly vacation at the beach. After researching jobs that travel, he stumbled upon yachting. Ruan successfully made the big jump from desk to deck and is now in his 2nd year on boats. While a deckhand now, Ruan hopes to learn more about the engineering side of boats. Whatever your outdoor needs shall be, Ruan will be happy to help you conquer your fears on the slide or learn how to maneuver a jet ski while onboard Excellence.
